The Denver Broncos are one of those teams that have a loyal fan base; even when they have gone through some down times, their fans continued to stay by their sides. The 2009 season will be no different as fans are already anticipating the purchase of season tickets, leaving many watching from their couch. The Broncos have some incredible players from the 2008 season, along with the addition of a few free agents. This combination may put Broncos at the top while they trample over every other team in the league this year.
Over the years, the team has experienced many ups and downs, along with staff and team changes. They have managed; however, to win some championship titles regardless of their circumstances. In fact, they won two Super Bowl Championship titles two years in a row; a feat that only five other teams have accomplished. This – the championship wins – are just part of what keep the fans coming back game after game, and season after season. Even with over 70,000 available seats, there just is not enough room to house all of their fans.
The Denver Broncos began as a humiliation to the AFL. Their first few years were embarrassing as they struggled to pull off a successful play, and they did it in old, used clothing with vertically striped socks. The socks, oddly enough, were what stood out the most. Two years after they became a team, Jack Faulkner stepped up to the plate to begin to make a team out of the men known as the Denver Broncos. His first friendly gesture, to the fans and press, was to burn the horrific socks that they team was wearing. For some reason, this gesture was one of the first steps to making the team as popular as they are today.
Only a few years later, in 1965, Atlanta was looking into buying the Denver Broncos. Luckily, the team was bought up by, none other, than Gerald and Allan Phipps. This save is what really got the team noticed. Ticket sales went from 8,000 in 1964 to 22,000 in 1965. Then, in 1968, the team moved to an old stadium, which they renamed the Mile High stadium; here is where they began to make their mark.
Almost immediately, nearly 20,000 seats were added to the stadium. Shortly after, in 1976, overall capacity was increased again, this time to 63,532. As the number of seats increased, so did the fans buying season and one-off tickets. There was no doubt that each expansion would include increased ticket sales and a full stadium!
More recently, the Broncos have been frequenting the playoffs and championship games. After taking two Super Bowl championship titles – 1997 and 1998 – the team returned to the playoffs in 2000, 2003, 2004, and again in 2005. It is true that fans have not seen their favorite team in the playoffs or with championship wins, in the past four years, but the 2009 season is expected to be a brand new year!
New players like Chris Simms, JJ Arrington, and LaMont Jordan will be playing alongside the best players of the 2008 season. Chris Simms, quarterback, does not yet have a reputation as he was the backup for the Tennessee Titans and just wasn’t needed. Agents and fans are saying this is his year to show everyone what he is made of. Arrington already holds an incredible record of carries, miles, and catches in his carrier; he will continue to add to that record through his years with the Broncos.
As they have done many times before, the Denver Broncos will stomp every team in the league. Their combination of players, in 2009, have everyone talking. It looks like this may be another championship year for the team.
